Needs of God’s People in Central America
Central America has widespread underemployment, one of the highest degrees of income inequality in the world. The median age is 22.1 years.
Widespread poverty limits the success of most churches in the region. The vast majority of the country claims to be Christian (most Roman Catholic), but less than a quarter of Central Americans attend church on a consistent basis.
Evangelical churches are small in number and small in membership. The availability of theological education is extremely limited, so most pastors lack formal training. Except for the largest churches, most church buildings are rented. Financial support for pastors is usually very minimal. However, the zeal for which the pastors feel their calling is expressed in their enormous dedication.
The people receive God’s word with eagerness and the society is very open to hearing the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ. Testimonies and Bibles can be shared in public schools. The fields are white unto harvest. What is lacking are resources with which to minister.
All the initiatives of UCM are designed to strengthen the local church and utilize it as the main source of evangelism and discipleship. By supporting UCM you know that your money goes to more than just handouts. It goes to strengthening the poor communities by enabling the local church with more resources to help the congregation, with the goal of leading people to Christ and promoting lifelong discipleship.
